Imagine Santorini, the quaint and sun-drenched fairy land of the Aegean, without the crowds. Here comes Folegandros! Travel and Leisure, one of the world’s leading travel magazines, released its top picks among scenic villages in Europe. Greek Folegandros is named in the list of Europe’s most beautiful villages, featured 5th in the top 14 , among iconic Mediterranean havens, Norwegian fjords, baroque styled settlements, river crossed villages and other unique European beauties.
Folegandros is a small, picturesque island in the Aegean Sea at the southern part of the Cyclades islands cluster. Untouched by mass tourism, yet featuring travel services and accommodation spots, Folegandros is a barely known gem among the Greek islands. According to Travel+Leisure, the island is quite similar to Santorini, with “streets paved in slate, whitewashed buildings decorated with colorful flowers, the occasional Greek Orthodox church with a bright blue dome – without the crowds”. For your secluded swim in Folegandros, the magazine suggests Katergo beach “where gentle, emerald-blue waves lap the pebbly shore”.
